Darby Hoover is a Senior Resource Specialist with the Urban Solutions program of the Natural Resources Defense Council. She specializes in issues related to the paper industry, solid waste management, composting, and recycling, and helps manage NRDC’s sustainability initiatives with sports and entertainment organizations, including Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League, Major League Soccer, the U.S. Tennis Association, the Academy Awards, and the GRAMMY Awards.
Darby is a co-coordinator of NRDC’s marine plastics initiative, which addresses the growing problem of plastic pollution in marine environments. Darby also helps to coordinate NRDC’s national solid waste and recycling initiatives, and oversees legislative work in California related to solid waste.
Prior to joining NRDC in 2004, Darby was the Executive Director of the Recycled Paper Coalition, a group of over 270 private and public sector organizations dedicated to the purchase and promotion of recycled paper products. Darby received her bachelor’s degree from Stanford University, and her master’s in Energy and Resources from UC Berkeley. She is also a certified Master Composter.
